about the Director

Miguelangel Estellano

Miguelangel Estellano (1979) has a degree in dramatic arts with a mention in stage direction from the Bolivian Catholic University (2009).

As Cultural Manager, he was co-director and programmer of Espacio Alternativo, Bolivian theater platform (2013 2015); Founder and Co-Director of El Desnivel Espacio Escénico (2009-2019). 

He was a professor of interpretation at the Municipal School of Art, La Paz (2013-2017). He collaborated as a professor at the National Theater School in Santa Cruz de la Sierra (2009-2011). And development in the Desnivel the project of professionalization of theater groups “path towards our theater” (2011-2015).  

Artistically he collaborates permanently with the companies: Textos que Migran, La Oveja Negra, Teatro la Cueva, La Compañía Impresentable, and is director of the company Scene Porcina. 

Miguelangel Estellano won The Peter Travesi Award for Best National Actor of the year (2015), won the Costa du Rels prize for dramaturgy for the play Xiao Xian (2019), won The Peter Travesi Award for best work Xiao Xian (2020).  

In cinema, Miguelangel Estellano works as an actor in: Averno by Marcos Loayza (2018), Olvidados by Carlos Bolado (2014), Sealed Cargo by Julia Vargas (2016), Era se una vez en Bolivia by Patrick Córdoba (2011), Also the Rain by Icíar Bollain (2010). 

As a theater director and producer, Miguelangel works on: Ash Wednesday (2019), Thanatologies (2019), Xiao Xian (2018), Bárbaros (2016), Copi (2014), La Muerte del general (2009), Variación a Lorca (2006). Also, he produces the original music of the works: Xiao Xian, Barbaros, 1 Ulrike yelled.

In theater, his latest works as an actor are the performances in: Tamayo (2015), Radio Paranoia (2014), My very private messianic festivals (2009), The letters of the cape (2010), In leather (2003); Los totó (1996), among the most outstanding. 

He has training in puppet techniques, clown, acrobatics and mime. He also works as a technician in the design, operation and lighting of stage shows. He is currently in the seventh semester of a film career at the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés (UMSA), Bolivia.

Nicolae Vicol

Nicolae Vicol graduated, in 1999, from the University of Craiova, Faculty of Letters and History, Dramatic Art Department – Acting, class Prof. Remus Mărgineanu, and, since 2016, he has been part of the “Marin Sorescu” National Theatre’company.   

 He has also played at the “Elvira Godeanu” Dramatic Theatre in Târgu Jiu, and “Ion D. Sîrbu” Dramatic Theatre in Petroşani, in more than 50 performances, on texts by Caragiale, Shakespeare, Gogol, Goldoni, Sophocles or Bulgakov.

Alongside his performance in his one man show Dragostele unui fante, another two of his successful roles were: Jean, the seductive opportunist in Miss July by August Strindberg and, in a very different way of interpretation, the resentful Semion Semionovici Poţekalnikov in The Suicide Boy by Nikolai Erdmand, an essential play about freedom, about the tragicalness and the absurd of the human condition.

He has also directed a few performances for children such as: Cinderella’s Story after Charles Perrault, and Little Muck by Wilhelm Hauff.

In the Craiova National Theatre’s current season, Nicolae Vicol is playing 6 plays: Where Is My Soul? after Marin Sorescu, directed by Norbert Boda; Farewell, Europe! after Ion D. Sîrbu, directed by Bogdan-Cristian Drăgan; Under(re)Construction by Marco Tesei, directed by Alex Teodorescu; Ajax. An Essay on Dementia after Sophocles, directed by Mihai Măniuțiu; The Old Man and the Euthanizer by Ionel Buşe, directed by Vlad Drăgulescu; The Jays by Al. Kiriţescu, directed by Alexandru Boureanu.
