Mikayil Mikayilov

Mikayil Mikayilov is a theatre and film director, choreographer and actor. Born in Baku in 1981, he graduated from the Baku Choreography Institute in 2000 and he graduated from the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Art with a magister degree in directing.

In 1999-2004 his worked as actor and choreographer in the Azerbaijan Pantomime Theatre.

Beginning 2005, Mikayil Mikayilov has been theatre director of the State Theatre YUG in Baku. First production was Diary of a Madman about a monster named VIY by Nikolay Gogol at the State Theatre YUG (winner in nomination “The best young director of the year” – 2005).

In 2010 worked as assistan director in The National Theatre in Prague for Yoshi Oida, who directed Mozart’s IDOMENEY opera.

Apart from work in film he staged: Beggar son of the millionaire at the State Theatre of Musical Comedy in Baku (operetta, 2007); Khanuma (Avksenty Tsagareli, 2011), THE DIVINE PLAY (epic musical in 1 act, 2014), The Government Inspector (comedy, Nikolay Gogol, 2016) at the Azerbaijan State Academic National Drama Theatre; Medea. Sequence-01 (apocryphal confession, author: V. Klimenko. 2016), We – Clown (féerie-macabre, Matei Vișniec, 2020) at the State Theatre YUG.

He staged productions in theatres of Russia and Kazakhstan, like Monsieur Jordan and Dervish Mastalishakh (Mirza Fatali Akhundov, 2012) at the Kazakh Drama Theatre (Karaganda); The Decameron (Giovanni Boccaccio, 2014) directed by plastic, Pandы (Matei Vișniec, 2018) at the Novosibirsk State Academic Theatre “Red Torch”; Monsieur and Dervish at the Theatre “Angagement” (Russia, Tyumen. 2013); Fools (Neil Simon, 2018), Dostoevsky FM: The Chronicles Of Mordasov (Fyodor Dostoevsky, 2019) at the Karaganda State Russian Drama Theater named after K.S. Stanislavsky.

Mikayil Mikayilov is the winner of the State Prize of the Azerbaijan (2012).

Claudiu Mihail

Since 2016, actor of the “Marin Sorescu” National Theater of Craiova, Claudiu Mihail has collaborated with the Craiova troupe since college in Rhinoceros by Eugène Ionesco, the fabulous production of the cult director Robert Wilson.

He is one of the most promising actors of the young generation, with an own universe, in a permanent rediscovery, which he brings on stage with each role, combining the marvelous technique, creativity, expressiveness, a deep analytical spirit and a totally special mobility.

Along with the independent company Teatrulescu, he was involved in improvisational shows and community theater projects (actor and coordinator): Your story is the story of your neighborhood or Theater everywhere, theatricals held in various villages in Oltenia.

In 2014 he joined the “Sică Alexandrescu” Theater in Brașov, where he played in shows directed by Vlad Massaci, Cristian Hadji-Culea, Liviu Lucaci and Adrian Iclenzan, but after two years spent in Brașov, he made his debut on the stage of Craiova directed by Bobi Pricop, in the play Illusions by Ivan Vîrîpaev, where he replaced the role of The First Man. In just a few days of intense rehearsals, he realized an excellent creation.

He views each play as a “step”, as a journey, he believes that the roles “choose you” and that the meeting with a new character is one of the most beautiful moments in theater, full of the emotion of unknown.

In this season, on the stage of Craiova he plays in 14 play-meetings, the most recent being: TOC TOC by Laurent Baffie, directed by Alexandru Boureanu and Raluca Păun; Heart and other meat dishes by Dan Coman, directed by Radu Afrim; Outfitul Șearpelui / The Snake’s Outfit by Marius Aldea, concept, artistic direction and choreography by Andrea Gavriliu; Talk Radio by Eric Bogosian, directed by Bobi Pricop.

He is also Lentziu in Meerkats House (Chocolate House) by David Drábek, directed by Radu Afrim; Alejandro in Operațiunea Marte (Mars Operation) by Alexa Băcanu, directed by Dragoș Alexandru Mușoiu; Zander in White Room by Alexandra Badea, directed by Florin Caracala; Jay in The Smell of the Kill by Michele Lowe, directed by Alexandru Boureanu; Claudiu in Retroelectro – text and direction by Bogdan Georgescu; La Grange in Fȇte after Molière, directed by Andreea Ciocîrlan; Soldier in Aias. Eseu despre demență (Essay on dementia) after Sophocles directed by Mihai Măniuțiu; Black in Monstrul nisipurilol (The Sand Monster) by Csaba Székely, directed by Irina Crăiță-Mândră; The First in Dacă am gândi cu voce tare (If They Could Speak Out Loud) by Adnan Lugonić, directed by Radu Afrim.
